Rare Footage of Bombing

Footage exists of the only known colour film of the Bombing of Darwin on the morning of 19 February 1942 and can only be seen at the museum.

The camera man was an amateur named Monty Tuckerman. Monty was the Stores Officer aboard the Corvette HMAS Warrnambool in Darwin Harbour when the Japanese attacked at 10 am on that fateful day.

Without access to any defensive armament on the ship Monty grabbed his colour movie camera and photographed in action.

The camera and the movie can be viewed at the museum.
